Carroll Shelby started out with an idea to build a sports card powered by an American V8 at a time when most European sports cars were being imported with little four-cylinder, 1918 taxi-cab engines. He went to AC Cars, because they and an available chassis and went to see Lee Iacocca at Ford for a little money and couple of engines to help him get started. Carroll never dreamed he would build a car to win world championships and everything else or become the legend it has. The Cobra has become the most replicated care there has ever been; Carroll thinks that says it all right there.
